Quantum information science has now become one of the fastest growing areas of research, characterised by its truly multidisciplinary nature and the significant potential it has for wide-ranging technological innovation.

In response to this situation, and demand from the community itself, IOP Publishing is pleased to announce the launch of Quantum Science and Technology TM, a new, high-impact journal designed to serve the full range of subject disciplines, extending across academia and industry, now engaged with advances in fundamental quantum information science and related quantum-enabled technologies.

The journal will be led by founding Editor-in-Chief Dr Robert Thew who is group leader at the University of Geneva's GAP Quantum Technologies department. Together with IOP Publishing's journal management team, he is in the process of building an international network of Board members, authors and reviewers. Dr Masahide Sasaki, Director of the Quantum ICT Laboratory at the Advanced ICT Research Institute, in Tokyo has already joined Dr Thew as Regional Editor for Asia.

Dr Thew said: "Quantum information is a rapidly expanding, fast-moving, and inherently multidisciplinary field that spans fundamental research to applied science. Quantum Science and Technology brings together the diverse subject communities that are now working on all aspects of quantum information science and quantum-enabled technologies.

"As Editor-in-Chief, I am very proud to be involved in launching this journal that will provide an exciting forum highlighting the emergence, progress and impact of a field that looks to define the 21st century."

Dr Tim Smith, Associate Director - Journals, at IOP Publishing, said: "We are very excited about the launch of what represents a major new addition to IOP's publishing programme, and one that will build upon our existing strong position within quantum information science.

"Our ambitions for Quantum Science and Technology are high and a priority will be to develop the journal's content, delivery and functionality in close consultation with the community to ensure that it meets the evolving needs of all aspects of the field."

Quantum Science and Technology will be free to read for individual users, universities, and academic research institutes throughout 2016. The journal will soon be accepting article submissions and offers open access publishing options.
