Alexandria, Va., USA - The American Association for Dental Research (AADR) announced Ning Yu, The Forsyth Institute, Cambridge, Mass., as the 2021 recipient of the AADR Anne D. Haffajee Fellowship. Yu was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the virtual 50th Annual Meeting of the AADR, held in conjunction with the 99th General Session & Exhibition of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) and the 45th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research (CADR), on July 21-24, 2021.
Yu is a research fellow in oral medicine, infection and immunity at The Forsyth Institute, Cambridge, Mass. She received her M.S. in clinical dentistry (periodontics) from China Medical University, Shenyang and her Ph.D. in oral biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Yu completed her postdoctoral research fellowship and residency at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Yu's research interests include host-microbial interactions in periodontitis, immunomodulation of periodontal ligament stem cells in periodontal regeneration and utilizing specialized pro-resolving mediators to promote periodontal regeneration.
This Fellowship was created in recognition of Anne Haffajee's many contributions to clinical research in periodontology and oral biology and her prominence as a female scientist and role model in the field. The immediate goal of this fellowship is to support women researchers at the early stages of their scientific careers. The long-term objective of this fellowship is to increase the representation of women at the higher ranks in science and academia in the field of oral biology. The $10,000 USD Fellowship is supported by generous donations from individuals and companies who created the endowment.
