Zhou & Yin Receive Funding For Collaborative Research Project

Keren Zhou, Assistant Professor, Computer Science, College of Engineering and Computing (CEC), and Binqian Yin, Professor, Computer Science, CEC, received funding from the National Science Foundation.

They are working on a project titled: “Collaborative Research: SHF: Hierarchical Optimization of Ragged Tensor Operators for Deep Learning Workloads.”

This project aims to address fundamental computational challenges in algorithms, data structures, and implementations of ragged tensor operators on graphics processing units, thereby pushing the boundaries of efficient artificial intelligence computation.

Key innovations of this research include a multi-level multi-phase auto-tuning module for dynamic workloads, efficient mechanisms to reduce overhead and overlap computation with communication, and a compiler module that seamlessly integrates ragged operators into existing workflow.

Zhou and Yin received $362,095 from NSF for this research. Funding began in July 2026 and will end in late June 2029.
