A study of indoor ozone chemistry conducted in a normally occupied house in Oakland, California finds overall low indoor ozone concentrations but multiple volatile organic compounds that reflect a contribution of ozone reactions with skin lipids and other surface chemicals; the volatile oxidation products of skin oil persisted even after the house had been vacant for 5 days, suggesting that skin lipids left on household surfaces contribute to indoor ozone chemistry.
