Researchers used computer modeling to study aspirin-receptor interactions and report the binding of aspirin to the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα), a nuclear hormone receptor involved in fatty acid metabolism; in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease, low-dose aspirin treatment activated PPARα and related biochemical pathways, resulting in improved hippocampal plasticity and memory, findings suggesting the therapeutic potential of aspirin in dementia-related illnesses.
