ST. LOUIS–The American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) has launched the Lifestyle Medicine Evidence Repository , the first centralized, curated collection of scientific research focused specifically on lifestyle medicine interventions.
Designed to support clinicians, researchers, educators, journalists and policymakers, the new repository brings together systematically screened and categorized studies into a single, searchable platform—making it easier than ever to explore the evidence behind lifestyle medicine’s approach to treating, reversing and preventing chronic disease.
“At its core, this repository is about access and usability,” said ACLM Senior Director of Research and Quality Micaela Karlsen, PhD, MSPH. “There is a large and growing body of research relevant to lifestyle medicine interventions, but it hasn’t existed in one organized, easy-to-navigate resource. This tool helps bridge that gap.”
A curated evidence base
The repository launches with more than 1,500 studies, all of which meet defined inclusion criteria, representing a variety of systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and intervention studies.
Key features include:
Built for real-world use
To be included, studies must incorporate at least two of the six lifestyle medicine pillars—optimal nutrition, physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, connectedness and avoidance of risky substances—rather than focusing on a single intervention alone. Studies also must either actually occur in a clinical setting, or must produce results relevant to what can be implemented clinically.
“Lifestyle medicine is fundamentally about how behaviors work together to influence health,” Dr. Karlsen said. “By focusing on studies that include multiple pillars, the repository better reflects what lifestyle medicine is really about – a whole-person, multimodal approach to healthcare.”
Initial content includes systematic reviews and meta-analyses published in the last five years, as well as a selection of intervention studies. Additional repository entries will be added on a rolling basis in the coming months.
