On January 21, Times Higher Education (THE), a UK-based magazine specializing in higher education, announced the World University Rankings by Subject.
Okayama University of Science was evaluated in two subject areas—Life Sciences and Physical Sciences—and achieved rankings of 1001+ and 1251+, respectively, marking its second consecutive year of inclusion.
This year’s THE World University Rankings by Subject 2026 assess universities worldwide across 11 subject areas based on indicators such as research excellence and research impact.
In the year’s rankings, 1,211 universities were ranked in the Life Sciences category, and 1,497 universities in the Physical Sciences category.
In the Life Sciences category, OUS was tied for first place among private universities in Western Japan (three universities), tied for seventh among private universities nationwide, and tied for 38th overall in Japan, including national and public universities.
In the Physical Sciences, OUS tied for third among private universities in Western Japan, tied for ninth among private universities nationwide, and tied for 40th overall in Japan, including national and public institutions.
These results demonstrate that the university’s research activities in both fields continue to receive international recognition. Okayama University of Science remains committed to further strengthening its research capabilities and promoting education and research that contribute meaningfully to society.
