The Society for Women's Health Research has published proceedings from its Second Annual Conference on Sex and Gene Expression (SAGE) held on March 8 – 11, 2001 at Wake Forest University. The meeting created a forum for basic and clinical scientists to share research findings that contribute to the emerging field of sex-based biology. The meeting brought together researchers from varied backgrounds, ranging from microbiology to endocrinology.

The Society for Women’s Health Research is the nation’s only not-for-profit organization whose sole mission is to improve the health of women through research. Founded in 1990, the Society brought to national attention the need for the appropriate inclusion of women in major medical research studies and the resulting need for more information about conditions affecting women.
