BETHESDA, MD – The Biophysical Society is pleased to announce that Yu-li Wang, of Carnegie Mellon University, USA, will receive the 2027 Carolyn Cohen Innovation Award. Wang will be honored at the Society’s 71st Annual Meeting, being held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from February 20-24, 2027.
Wang will receive the Carolyn Cohen Innovation Award for foundational discoveries that have enabled the field of mechanobiology and the use of fluorescence microscopy to study protein dynamics in living cells.
“Yu-li’s discoveries and methods have transformed biophysics through innovations of lasting importance. His work has inspired generations of scientists and advanced the field both within and across scientific disciplines,” said BPS President Karen Fleming of Johns Hopkins University. “The tools, techniques, and conceptual frameworks he pioneered are now so deeply woven into modern biophysics that it is difficult to imagine the discipline without his contributions. It is my pleasure to honor his extraordinary work with this award.”
About the Award - The Carolyn Cohen Innovation Award recognizes a BPS member who advanced our fundamental understanding of biological systems through the development of novel theory, models, concepts, techniques, or applications.
