Sushil Jajodia, Director, Center for Secure Information Systems, received funding for the project: "Rethinking Adaptive Cyber Defense, Optimization, and Reinforcement Learning in an Adversarial Environment."
In this project, Jajodia is assuming that there is an adversary whose objective is to maximize the response time of the genuine activities in the system.
He is investigating the worst case that could occur under adversarial attacks and working to find a way to limit the impact. At the same time, he is seeking to maximize the effort required by the adversary to achieve the worst case. In other words, he is evaluating two aspects of models and algorithms: worst-case response time and the cost for an adversary to achieve the worst case.
Jajodia received $450,000 from the Office of Naval Research for this work. Funding began in Jan. 2023 and will end in late Dec. 2025.
