Serum And Red Blood Cell Folate Concecentrations, Race, And Education: Findings From The Third National Health And Nutrition Examination Survey

Low folate levels are a risk for neural tube defects in offspring and potentially other diseases. In the third NHANES both African American and Mexican American adults have lower serum and red cell folates than white adults regardless of education, underscoring need for improved diet and folate supplements.
