Researchers report that the S protein of porcine deltacoronavirus (PDCoV) bound to a domain of the protein aminopeptidase N (APN), which is expressed on the surface of host cells and is highly conserved across animal species; expression of APN from pigs, humans, chickens, and cats facilitated PDCoV infection of cultured cells, suggesting a possible mechanism of PDCoV transmission from pigs to other species.
