The University of Hong Kong (HKU) announces the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the El-Yurt Umidi Foundation for the Training of Prospective Personnel from Uzbekistan (El-Yurt Umidi Foundation) on March 9, 2026, at the HKU campus. This significant agreement aims to strengthen educational ties and create collaborative opportunities for talented students from Uzbekistan.

The signing was officiated by Professor Bennett Yim, Director of Undergraduate Admissions and International Student Exchange at HKU, and Mr Davron Abdurashidov, First Deputy Executive Director of the El-Yurt Umidi Foundation, marking a pivotal step in enhancing academic relations between Uzbekistan and Hong Kong.

The MoU marks HKU’s first formal collaboration in Uzbekistan, establishing a framework for various educational pathways. This includes facilitating admission for El-Yurt Umidi Foundation scholars to HKU’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, developing training and enrichment initiatives to enhance their academic skills, exploring scholarship opportunities for financial support, and organising joint academic and cultural initiatives to foster collaboration and understanding between the two institutions.

Professor Bennett Yim expressed, “This MoU reflects our commitment to fostering academic collaboration and enhancing student mobility. We are excited to work with the El-Yurt Umidi Foundation to provide meaningful educational opportunities for students from Uzbekistan. This partnership aligns with HKU’s mission to promote international education and enrich its diverse academic community.”

This collaboration signifies a strong commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and promoting cross-cultural exchanges between Uzbekistan and Hong Kong, creating valuable prospects for talented Uzbek students and enriching HKU’s global academic network.
