The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is announcing a partnership with Consensus – the most-used academic search tool outside of PubMed and Google Scholar –to bring research from the six Science family journals into AI-native discovery for the scientific community.
Through this partnership, AAAS is enabling Consensus to index and run AI analysis across the full text of its journals. The journal content won't be used to train AI models. Rather, it will power search and analysis for users – and every result is built to route them back to the original work, which remains the authoritative source.
Since Science family journal content went live within Consensus this August, click-throughs per search appearance have more than doubled compared to the same period in 2025.
Consensus more broadly has become a significant source of referral traffic for publisher partners. It serves more than 10 million users, and for many publishers, it drives more traffic than general-purpose AI assistants like ChatGPT and Gemini.
For AAAS, the partnership reflects a broader approach to AI-enabled discovery: making high-quality scientific research more visible and useful to researchers while preserving a clear path to the original source. As researchers increasingly turn to AI tools to discover and navigate scientific literature, ensuring that Science family research is both discoverable and traceable is an important part of maintaining a trustworthy scientific record.
