Fayetteville State University (FSU), one of the oldest historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in the United States, has announced a landmark three-year open access (OA) partnership with Taylor & Francis.

The agreement supports FSU researchers to choose OA for their work in more than 2,500 Taylor & Francis and Routledge journals, without needing to pay an open access publishing charge. Making OA an option for all FSU authors is set to significantly enhance the global visibility and impact of FSU’s scholarship.

Fayetteville State University continues its long tradition of research excellence by supporting scholars in making positive contributions to society. By investing in OA, FSU puts new research into the hands of readers everywhere, helping to drive progress in communities across the globe.

The broad Taylor & Francis portfolio aligns with FSU’s interdisciplinary strengths, spanning leading humanities and social sciences programs alongside robust STEM coverage. This partnership supports the full spectrum of FSU’s research, from health sciences and education to economics and the arts.

“Research should be accessible to the people and communities it serves," said Lawrence Treadwell IV, director of library services at Fayetteville State University’s Charles W. Chesnutt Library. "This agreement eliminates the financial hurdles that often limit how our faculty publish. Our scholars now have the resources to make their findings public and freely available from the start. We are dedicated to helping our researchers navigate this process to increase the visibility of their scholarship.”

Seth Russell, Head of Open Research, Americas at Taylor & Francis, added: “We were delighted to work with FSU to design a partnership that meets their ambitions and empowers researchers to share their work with new audiences. Open access is a powerful tool for advancing knowledge and fostering collaboration across disciplines, so we look forward to seeing FSU’s innovative contributions making a global impact.”
