As global demographics shift toward older populations and chronic diseases rise, healthcare systems are increasingly turning to interdisciplinary solutions. Against this backdrop, Cheeloo College of Medicine, at Shandong University, launched Healthcare and Rehabilitation ( H&R ), a pioneering open-access journal dedicated to advancing innovative healthcare research.

For over 150 years, the college has been at the forefront of medical education and research in China. Its work has made global impact, with 20 of its disciplines ranking in the top 1% of Essential Science Indicators (ESI) and studies published in top-tier journals such Cell , Nature and The Lancet .

Forging new frontiers, the college is integrating technologies such as artificial intelligence, 5G and big data into healthcare innovation. Researchers are developing revolutionary approaches in the fields of zero-magnetism medicine, neutron medicine and intelligent healthcare systems designed to improve diagnostics and treatment precision.

“The launch of H&R reflects Cheeloo Medicine’s commitment to global academic excellence," says Professor Yi Fan, Dean of Cheeloo College of Medicine and Vice President of Shandong University. “By fostering dialogue among disciplines such as rehabilitation, public health, nursing, materials science, and information technology, the journal seeks to establish itself as a leading platform for scholarly exchange.”

With support from Shandong University’s network of 30 international partners, H&R aims to drive advancements in sustainable healthcare systems. The journal offers several distinctive advantages, including open access (OA) publication, waiver of article processing charges (APC), rigorous yet efficient peer-review , strong emphasis on interdisciplinary research, and an editorial board composed of distinguished scholars in the field.
