Researchers developed a single-administration vaccine strategy for polio using an injectable microsphere bearing inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) that releases stable antigen over time; the researchers used biocompatible excipients to stabilize IPV, and found that injecting the microspheres into rats elicited a strong immune response against all three IPV antigens.
