WHAT:

Despite decades of major advances in the ability to study the brain processes that control behavior, we have not yet reached the goal of translating this new knowledge into breakthroughs for psychiatric illness.

Too often, researchers lack a combined understanding of psychiatric illness as it appears in humans and how it is studied in laboratory models, which limits effective communication across disciplines and translation of discoveries into treatments.

Ongoing efforts at McLean Hospital ensure that early-career researchers develop a sophisticated understanding of both psychiatry and neuroscience. McLean offers specialized mentorship teams with expertise that covers both disciplines, thereby hastening the development of new treatments.

This free event will highlight the experiences of four past Rappaport Fellowship awardees with very different backgrounds, ranging from clinical research to research involving postmortem human brains to research involving behavioral and molecular endpoints in animal models.

WHEN:

Date: Thursday, July 15, 2021

Time: 4:00-5:00 PM EST

WHERE:

Registration is free and is now open.

WHO:

Join us as the following McLean Hospital experts describe the ways in which the Rappaport fellowship experience and McLean's translational research environment have impacted their careers, as well as their vision for how translationally oriented research is poised to revolutionize the study and treatment of mental illness.
