Reston, VA (August 21, 2026)— New research has been published ahead-of-print by The Journal of Nuclear Medicine ( JNM ). JNM is published by the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, an international scientific and medical organization dedicated to advancing nuclear medicine, molecular imaging, and theranostics—precision medicine that allows diagnosis and treatment to be tailored to individual patients in order to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Summaries of the newly published research articles are provided below.

PSMA PET/CT Detects Prostate Cancer Recurrence After Focal Therapy
A study evaluated PSMA PET/CT for detecting recurrent prostate cancer after minimally invasive focal treatments such as cryoablation, laser ablation, and high-intensity focused ultrasound. Among 112 patients, PSMA PET/CT frequently identified recurrence within the prostate and also detected pelvic lymph node and distant disease.

68 Ga-FAPI PET/CT Helps Distinguish Malignant and Benign Nerve Tumors
Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors are aggressive cancers that can be difficult to distinguish from benign peripheral nerve sheath tumors using standard imaging. In a study of 18 patients, 68 Ga-FAPI PET/CT was evaluated for its ability to identify differences in tracer uptake and tumor characteristics between malignant and benign tumors.

PSMA Theranostics Access Varies Between Brazil and Europe
A multicenter study examined real-world access to PSMA-targeted theranostics in Brazil and Europe. Among 91 patients receiving 177 Lu-PSMA therapy, researchers compared the time from treatment request to PSMA PET/CT and to the first therapy dose, highlighting differences in how quickly patients move from imaging to treatment.

Dual-Targeting Radiopharmaceutical Shows Promise in Advanced Cancers
Researchers developed 177 Lu-LNC1009, a radiopharmaceutical designed to target both fibroblast activation protein and integrin αvβ3. In a first-in-human study of nine patients with advanced solid tumors, the treatment demonstrated sustained tumor uptake, favorable tumor-to-background ratios, and manageable safety, while researchers also assessed radiation doses delivered to tumors and organs.
