The Bial Foundation is launching a new call for Grants for Scientific Research 2026/2027 in the fields of psychophysiology and parapsychology, to foster research focused on the healthy human being, in its physical and spiritual dimensions.
The regulations and application submission are available here . Applications will be open until 31 August 2026. In the 2026/2027 edition, the maximum grant amount is €60,000 per project. The amount awarded to each project will be determined by the Bial Foundation according to the needs of the research project submitted.
“For more than three decades, it has been a priority of the Bial Foundation to consistently support research in the health sciences, with a particular focus on neuroscience and the study of consciousness, promoting dialogue between areas that have traditionally developed separately. We remain committed to encouraging scientific research of excellence, capable of generating relevant knowledge and translating it into concrete benefits for people, whether in enhancing the understanding of the human mind or in improving health and quality of life”, says Luís Portela, Chairman of the Bial Foundation.
In total, in the 16 editions held, the Foundation has approved for funding 946 projects involving around 1900 researchers from 31 countries. From 1994 to February 2026, the research funded by the Bial Foundation has resulted in the publication of 2,320 articles in indexed journals (in Scopus or Web of Science). Of these, 2,063 were published in journals with an average impact factor of 4.1, and 394 in journals with an impact factor equal to or greater than 5. Half of the articles were published in journals belonging to the first quartile (Q1) in their respective scientific field. By February 2026, the total number of citations had reached 63.927 with 806 publications cited more than 20 times.
