Satoru Shindo named recipient of the 2026 AADOCR William Butler Fellowship

Alexandria, VA – The American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (AADOCR) has announced Satoru Shindo as the 2026 recipient of the AADOCR William Butler Fellowship. Shindo, from Nova Southeastern University, was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the 55 th Annual Meeting of the AADOCR, which was held in conjunction with the 104 th General Session of the International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR) and the 50 th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research on March 25-28, 2026 in San Diego, CA.

Shindo joined Nova Southeastern University in 2020 following his appointment as a Clinical Instructor at Hiroshima University, Japan. He currently leads a research program at the intersection of mechanobiology, osteo-vascular coupling, and organ-on-chip technology.

Shindo has received several competitive awards, including a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Overseas Fellowship, a National Institutes of Health F32 Postdoctoral Fellowship, and an National Isntitute for Dental and Craniofacial Research K08 Mentored Clinical Scientist Career Development Award focused on Piezo1-mediated Type-H Vessel Formation in Periodontitis. He was also recognized as a finalist for the 2025 AADOCR Joseph Lister Award for New Investigators.

Shindo has actively supported the AADOCR Florida Section, contributed to NOVA Southeastern’s Research Day programs, and served as a mentor. Notably, one of his trainees, Mohamad Rawas-Qalaji, received first place in the 2022 AADOCR Hatton Competition and subsequently entered a Ph.D. program at the University of Pennsylvania.

The AADOCR William Butler Fellowship is in recognition of Dr. Butler’s many contributions to research in mineralized tissues and his prominence as a leading mentor and role model in the field. The immediate goal of this fellowship is to support researchers at the early stages of their scientific careers. The Fellowship is supported by generous donations from individuals and companies which created the endowment.
