Dr. Aditya Bardia , professor of medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and director of Translational Research Integration at the UCLA Health Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center , has been elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation, one of the highest honors in academic medicine.

Each year, the organization selects up to 100 physician-scientists from hundreds of nominees in recognition of their outstanding contributions to research and patient care.

Bardia, an internationally recognized breast medical oncologist, was honored for his work as a translational scientist and leader in academic medicine. He has dedicated his career to advancing precision medicine therapies and technologies for cancer, particularly breast cancer, helping bring discoveries from the laboratory to patients more quickly.

“This is an elite group of physicians worldwide who are nominated to the society, and I am humbled that I had the opportunity to be elected,” said Bardia. “I’m excited about moving the field of translational research forward, and this gives me additional confidence that we’re on the right path.”

A major focus of Bardia’s research is the development of antibody-drug conjugates, a targeted form of therapy that delivers chemotherapy directly to cancer cells while minimizing damage to healthy tissue. He is also advancing liquid biopsy technologies that can detect and analyze cancer cells and DNA fragments in the bloodstream.

Before joining UCLA, Bardia and collaborators developed a specialized chip designed to identify rare cancer cells in blood samples, work that was published in the journal Nature . The technology could help physicians better match patients with the most effective therapies.

Bardia also serves as editor-in-chief of the peer-reviewed journal Breast Cancer Research and Treatment and is a member of the editorial boards of several leading journals, including The Oncologist , Therapeutic Advances in Medical Oncology and NPJ Precision Oncology.

He has authored more than 150 publications in peer-reviewed medical journals, including landmark studies published in The Lancet , Journal of Clinical Oncology and The New England Journal of Medicine .
