A study in which researchers used data from the Human Mortality Database for 49 countries and regions between 1900 and 2017 found that an increase in lifespan equality, an indicator of similar ages at death within a population, often coincided with increased life expectancy; high reductions in mortality at young ages increased both life expectancy and lifespan equality, suggesting the importance of saving lives at ages below life expectancy.
