Korea University Ansan Hospital held a symposium at the Rosetta Hall Auditorium under the theme “ Growth and Future of Research-Oriented Hospitals: Regional, Industry, and Global Collaboration.”
The symposium was organized to commemorate the hospital’s inaugural designation as a research-oriented hospital. More than 170 participants from academia, research institutions, and industry attended the event, including Dean Sung Bom Pyun of Korea University College of Medicine, President Dong Hun Suh of Korea University Ansan Hospital, Director Gun Ho Na of the Naver Healthcare Research Institute, and Team Leader Jung Sook Kim of the Korea Health Industry Development Institute. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on fostering collaborative research ecosystems at the regional, industrial, and global levels.
The program was structured into three sessions covering the future directions of research-oriented hospitals, strategies for strengthening regional and industry collaboration, and real-world cases of research commercialization.
The first session, titled “Future Directions Following Research-Oriented Hospital Designation,” featured presentations including “Strategic Development of Research-Oriented Hospitals” by Jung Sook Kim of KHIDI and “The Future of Advanced Medicine at Korea University Ansan Hospital” by Ju Han Lee, Vice President for Research.
The second session, “Strengthening Regional Collaboration Network,” focused on industry–academia–research partnerships and emerging medical technologies. Key presentations included “Understanding and Application of AI Genetic Algorithms” by Kyung Tae Kang, Director at Hanyang University ERICA; “The Role of GBSA in Bio-Innovation: A Platform for Connectivity, Collaboration, and Growth” by Sun Ho Jung, Team Leader at Gyeonggi Business & Science Accelerator; and “Development and Application of Advanced Biomedical Materials for Medical Innovation” by Tae Hee Kim, Senior Researcher at Korea Institute of Industrial Technology.
The final session, “Commercialization Case Studies,” highlighted translational research and industry collaboration across digital health, AI, and drug development. Presentations included “Development of a Multisensory VR-Based Digital Therapeutic for Tinnitus Using an ‘Avatar’ Concept” by June Choi, Professor of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Korea University Ansan Hospital; “AR/VR Applications Based on Digital Twin Technology in Hospital Settings” by Sang Joon Park, CEO of Medical IP Co., Ltd.; “Zebrafish-Based Drug Discovery for Rare Neurological Diseases” by Hae Chul Park, Professor at Korea University College of Medicine; “Therapeutic Development for Fibrotic Diseases” by Joon Seo Oh, Professor at Korea University College of Medicine; “Stain-Free Histopathology Using AI and Optical Imaging” by Jea Young Kim, Professor at Korea University College of Medicine; and “Digital Healthcare 2025: Age of Generative AI” by Gun Ho Na, Director at Naver Healthcare Research Institute.
Through these sessions, the symposium showcased a wide range of collaborative achievements between Korea University Ansan Hospital and industry partners, particularly in the fields of digital healthcare, artificial intelligence, and novel therapeutics development.
