Tobacco chewers quit after "teachable moment" in dental chair

A new study by Oregon Research Institute shows that dental hygienists can help patients quit chewing tobacco by providing cessation intervention. Quit rates tripled among those who received the intervention compared to usual care.

The researchers believe this is due to the dry environment of toilet seats, which are less conducive to bacterial growth.
