In 2025, ECNU Review of Education (ROE) recorded a JCR Impact Factor of 2.6 and a CiteScore of 5.7 , ranking Q1 in both Scopus and Web of Science (ESCI) . Its growing visibility is further reflected in the increasing number of policy citations by organizations, such as the OECD, UNESCO, Education Development Trust, and Sweden’s Skolforskningsinstitutet (The Swedish Institute for Educational Research) .

With authors from over 30 countries and regions , ROE maintains a strong international orientation: in recent volumes, more than half of the published articles have been authored or co-authored by international scholars . This diverse authorship strengthens the journal’s comparative perspective and facilitates the global dialogue on educational reforms and practices.

ROE publishes research that captures major dimensions of China’s educational transformation, including governance reforms, curriculum modernization, teacher development, equity and access, high-stakes assessment, digital learning, and the societal expectations shaping family engagement in education. Several articles have attracted notable global attention—for example, studies on college admissions reform , middle-tier instructional leadership , Shanghai’s education system , and young children’s artificial intelligence and robotics education have each recorded high Altmetric scores and extensive media uptake . ROE’s articles have been reported or referenced by a wide range of international media and education-focused platforms, including Forbes , Times Higher Education , Education Week , The Conversation , University World News , as well as several regional education policy networks.

The journal’s influence is also reflected in citations by major government and think tank reports. ROE articles have been referenced in policy analyses, national reviews, and systematic evidence syntheses , demonstrating the journal’s emerging role as a trusted research source for policymakers and education leaders.

“Our goal is to provide a rigorous and accessible platform that helps global readers understand the logic, complexity, and evolution of China’s education system,” the ROE editorial team notes. “By sharing contextualized, evidence-based research, we hope to support more balanced international conversations and deepen mutual understanding across education communities.”

As China continues to innovate and adapt in response to social and technological change, ROE remains committed to publishing high-quality scholarship that documents these developments and interprets their broader implications for global education research and policy learning.
