Taking place on February 14-16, 2025, in Washington, the American College of Cardiology (ACC) Advancing the Cardiovascular Care of the Oncology Patient conference is an interdisciplinary and inter-specialty conference designed to provide clinicians with the tools needed to improve the cardiovascular care of cancer patients in everyday practice.
As novel and established cancer treatments have increased survivors of all kinds of cancers, many of these therapeutics are associated with both short- and long-term cardiovascular effects. For many patients, one of the greatest risks is related to early and late cardiovascular toxicities. The cardio-oncology field strives to provide comprehensive cardiac care to patients undergoing cancer treatment and beyond for those with existing heart disease or experiencing related cardiovascular complications due to cancer therapy.
“We are excited about this year’s ACC Advancing the Cardiovascular Care of the Oncology Patient course, with a particular emphasis on innovation, community and the transformative role of technology in shaping our field. The conference is packed with sessions designed to provide practical, actionable knowledge and foster patient-centered, evidence-based, collaborative care for individuals living with and beyond cancer,” said Course Chair Richard Cheng, MD, MSc, FACC, Heart Failure/MCS/Transplant and Cardio-Oncology section chief at the University of Washington.
Anju Nohria, MD, MSc, conference vice chair, and leading experts in the field will speak on a variety of key topics. Conference founders Ana Barac, MD, PhD, FACC, and Bonnie Ky, MD, FACC, will return to speak to attendees on how to elevate their career in the cardio-oncology field.

Other exciting highlights include a keynote from ACC President Cathie Biga, who will share insights on building a thriving cardio-oncology practice, as well as Dr. Bharath Ambale Venkatesh from Johns Hopkins, who will discuss the role of AI and technology in our field,” Cheng said. “We are also excited to host a joint session with ASCO focusing on cardiovascular health in long-term cancer survivors with metastatic disease. Pulmonary Tumor Thrombotic Microangiopathy: A Rapidly Progressive Form of Pulmonary Hypertension in Cancer Patients

The patient case examines the role of pulmonary tumor thrombotic microangiopathy as a cause of pulmonary hypertension in patients with cancer. It shares many clinical and pathobiological features with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension, but the progression of symptoms is more rapid, requiring prompt evaluation.
