Washington, DC (August 17, 1999) - The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the Institute for Civil Society will convene representatives from government, industry and the scientific community in a public meeting on stem cell research on August 25, 1999. The meeting coincides with the release of AAAS's preliminary statement on stem cell research, and seeks to gather public comment to be incorporated into the findings. The discussion will offer recommendations and formal responses by experts, and a panel discussion that addresses the science, funding and ethical impact of stem cell research and its applications.
As the attached agenda shows, the conference will provide an opportunity for reporters to hear from various researchers throughout the day.
