(Toronto and London, June 24, 2026) JMIR Publications , a leading open-access digital health research publisher, is pleased to announce the expansion of their Flat-Fee Unlimited Open Access Partnership through Jisc.

Effective April 1, 2026, three new institutions, the University of St. Andrews, the University of York, and the University of Surrey, have officially joined this collaborative agreement. Additionally, all 16 previously participating institutions have renewed their commitment to the JMIR Publications open access partnership for the 2026–2027 term, reinforcing their ongoing support for open science.

Partnership Highlights:

JMIR Publications and Jisc have expanded their Flat-Fee Unlimited Open Access Partnership for articles accepted for publication between April 1, 2026, and March 31, 2027.

Three new UK institutions, the University of St. Andrews, the University of York, and the University of Surrey, joined the agreement, effective April 1, 2026.

All 16 previously participating institutions have renewed their commitment for the 2026-2027 term.

The flat-fee agreement eliminates individual Article Processing Charges (APCs) for eligible corresponding authors at participating institutions, granting them unlimited, APC-free publishing in JMIR’s portfolio of over 30 Gold Open Access journals.

“We are pleased to expand our collaboration with Jisc and welcome the University of St. Andrews, the University of York, and the University of Surrey to this agreement,” said Dennis O’Brien, VP Communications and Partnerships at JMIR Publications. “Our partnership growth stems from a shared commitment to advancing open science. Jisc focuses on the development of long-term, sustainable models that support fully open access, independent publishers. This collaboration demonstrates how institutions and publishers can align to build a more equitable scholarly communications ecosystem.”

“The University of Surrey is committed to making Open Access sustainable and available to all our researchers, advancing the reach and impact of our research. This partnership with JMIR Publications is a key step in fulfilling that vision offering additional publishing opportunities to our researchers with limited funding available for publications” added Eleonora Gandolfi, Associate Director (Research and Innovation) at the University of Surrey Library. “Removing the financial burden of Article Processing Charges allows our researchers to prioritize the open and rapid sharing of their work. This pilot partnership agreement aligns perfectly with our strategic commitment to open science and ensures our digital health discoveries are widely available to those who need them most.”

For researchers affiliated with participating institutions, the flat-fee agreement eliminates individual Article Processing Charges (APCs), simplifying the publication process and removing financial barriers to open access publishing. Under the renewed agreement, eligible corresponding authors will enjoy unlimited, APC-free publishing across JMIR’s portfolio of over 30 Gold Open Access journals, including the renowned Journal of Medical Internet Research.

This agreement covers articles accepted for publication between April 1, 2026, and March 31, 2027.
