The American Association for the Advancement of Science ( AAAS ) is pleased to announce its partnership with Shanghai Jiao Tong University ( SJTU ) to publish Cog as a Science Partner Journal.
Cog advances integrative brain and mind research by bridging neuroscience, psychology, and artificial intelligence to uncover the neural mechanisms underlying cognition, emotion, and behavior. The journal welcomes submissions that present interdisciplinary research with clear mechanistic insights and encourages studies that bridge fundamental discovery and translational applications. Original research with broad scientific significance and authoritative reviews that identify emerging directions and shape new fields of inquiry are particularly welcomed. Categories of manuscripts include Research Articles, Review Articles, Perspectives, and Rapid Reports.
Tifei Yuan, Trevor Robbins, and Ben Becker serve as co-Editors-in-Chief. Cog is currently open for submission and publishes under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY).
“How the brain supports cognition, emotion, and behavior remains a fundamental scientific question, with profound implications for human health. We are launching Cog to bring together neuroscience, psychology, and artificial intelligence around this shared challenge. Our aim is to create a forum for research that explains mechanisms, connects findings across levels of analysis, and opens paths from basic discovery to clinical application. We also see an opportunity for brain research and artificial intelligence to inform one another, generating new hypotheses and tools for understanding both biological and artificial systems. Partnering with AAAS will help us connect researchers across disciplines and countries and bring their work to a wider audience. We want Cog to become a trusted home for rigorous studies and ideas that move the field forward, while encouraging open exchange and collaboration. Ultimately, we hope these efforts will deepen understanding of the mind and improve brain and mental health,” said Tifei Yuan, co-Editor-in-Chief of Cog .
“AAAS is excited to welcome Cog to the Science Partner Journal (SPJ) program and grow our partnership with SJTU,” said Bill Moran, Publisher of the Science family of journals at AAAS. “ Cog joins as the 22 nd journal in the SPJ portfolio, furthering our commitment to communicate science broadly and for the benefit of all.”
Titles participating in the Science Partner Journal program are added on a regular basis and participation in the program is kept to English-language publications. AAAS is actively seeking new partners across scientific disciplines. Organizations participating in the Science Partner Journal program will be editorially independent and responsible for the content published in each journal. Partner organizations are responsible for establishing editorial boards committed to best practices in peer review and author service. About Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU)
Founded in 1896, Shanghai Jiao Tong University ( SJTU ) is a comprehensive research university in Shanghai, China. Drawing on strengths in mathematics, artificial intelligence, and clinical neuroscience, SJTU advances interdisciplinary research in computational neuroscience and psychology. Its researchers integrate mathematical modeling, neuroimaging, and experimental approaches to investigate neural computation, cognition, emotion, and behavior. The School of Psychology emphasizes the integration of psychology and AI, with research spanning brain and cognitive sciences, clinical and health psychology, and social psychology. This interdisciplinary approach connects fundamental research with applications in brain and mental health.
