New catalyst of platinum nanoparticles could lead to conk-out free, stable fuel cells

Scientists at Cornell University have discovered a new catalyst that could make fuel cells more stable and conk-out free, using platinum nanoparticles on titanium oxide with added tungsten. The material is more stable and less expensive than pure platinum, allowing it to work with hydrogen fuels containing up to 2% carbon monoxide.

Scientists at Cornell University found that compounds in Guatemalan potato moth larvae saliva increase photosynthesis and starch production in commercial potato plants, resulting in bigger tubers. Yield increases were observed when 10-50% of potatoes were infested, with marketable yields doubling or tripling.

Deadly fish virus now found in all Great Lakes

Small optical force can budge nanoscale objects

Researchers at Cornell University used a tiny beam of light to move a silicon structure up to 12 nanometers, switching its optical properties. This technology could have applications in MEMS and MOMS, where it might be useful for creating tunable filters or preventing silicon parts from sticking together.
