JMIR Publications’ JMIR Neurotechnology invites submissions on digital health technologies in Parkinson disease: Measurement, intervention, and validation

09.16.26 | JMIR Publications

(Toronto, September 16, 2026) JMIR Publications invites submissions to a new theme issue on “ Digital Health Technologies in Parkinson Disease” in its open access journal JMIR Neurotechnology . The premier, peer-reviewed journal is indexed in Sherpa/Romeo, DOAJ, EBSCO/EBSCO Essentials, PubMed Central and PubMed.

Digital health technologies (DHTs), including smartphones, wearable devices, and emerging sensor systems, are increasingly used in Parkinson disease research to enable continuous, real-world assessment of motor and non-motor symptoms. These approaches support scalable, longitudinal data collection, offer new opportunities for intervention, and extend naturally to related conditions such as prodromal and atypical parkinsonian disorders.

Despite this progress, important challenges remain in the validation, reproducibility, and clinical integration of these measurements. In parallel, the role of DHTs in interventional contexts, such as clinical trials, treatment optimization, and digital therapeutics, continues to evolve and warrants further attention, particularly in relation to study design, endpoint definition, clinical and real-world implementation.

This call for papers invites contributions that address these challenges through clinically grounded and methodologically rigorous research, spanning both measurement and intervention.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

Digital measurement of motor and non-motor symptoms

Remote and real-world monitoring

Disease progression and longitudinal modeling

Digital therapeutics and intervention studies

Serious games in motor rehabilitation

DHT-enabled and hybrid clinical trials

Use of digital endpoints in interventional research

Smartphone, wearable, and multimodal sensing technologies

Analytical and clinical validation of digital biomarkers

Reproducibility, robustness, and regulatory considerations

Translation into clinical research and practice

Jacques Demongeot, MD, PhD, Université Grenoble Alpes, France
