EBRAINS will bring together the international neuroscience community at the EBRAINS Roadmap Symposium, taking place in Munich on 21-22 May 2026. The meeting marks a milestone in shaping the EBRAINS 10-Year-Roadmap (2026-2036), following an exceptional response to its open call for contributions . A total of 159 submissions were received from 134 unique contributors across more than 25 countries, including participants from Europe, the United States, Canada, and Australia. Registration is open until 30 April 2026.
"Each submission required detailed, well-structured input - making the final number of 159 contributions a clear sign of meaningful engagement from the community", says Prof. Viktor Jirsa, EBRAINS Chief Science Officer.
The Roadmap call invited researchers, clinicians, technologists and infrastructure specialists to help define the scientific, clinical, and technological priorities that will guide the evolution of EBRAINS over the next decade. The breadth and quality of submissions - ranging from brain digital twins and computational psychiatry to neuromorphic computing, brain-machine interfaces, and open science - reflect the momentum of Europe's digital neuroscience landscape and reaffirm EBRAINS' role as its leading research infrastructure.
A community driven process to shape the next decade
Launched in November 2025, the EBRAINS Roadmap process is designed to be fully community driven. Contributions were invited from individual researchers, collaborative networks, and large consortia. Submissions also identified gaps and opportunities for improvement within the EBRAINS ecosystem itself - insights that will help guide future development and investments.
With the call now closed, the Review Committee will cluster the contributions into strategic themes, ahead of the EBRAINS Roadmap Strategy Symposium, taking place in Munich on 21-22 May 2026, where the community will gather to debate priorities and co-create the Roadmap.

ABOUT EBRAINS - Built for Brain Breakthroughs
EBRAINS is Europe's Digital Neuroscience Research Infrastructure. Built by the EU-funded Human Brain Project, it provides open access to computational modelling, brain atlases, shared digital analysis tools, and unique open datasets to advance brain research and medicine, enabling large-scale collaboration.
Through EBRAINS, scientists can perform complex analyses, using brain maps to facilitate neuroimaging, model the brain across scales, access supercomputers, and manage vast amounts of data. These capabilities accelerate research and drive innovation in medical applications - such as exploring disease mechanisms through datasets and digital tools, and developing digital twins of the brain. Additionally, EBRAINS contributes to broader scientific advancements by fostering AI-driven neuroscience, supporting the creation of a European Health Data Space, and strengthening collaboration between research infrastructures.
