Vienna to host EANM'26 as nuclear medicine enters a period of rapid transformation

10.07.26 | European Association of Nuclear Medicine

VIENNA, [07/10/2026] — Nuclear medicine is now one of the fastest-growing fields in modern healthcare, with more than 50 million procedures performed worldwide each year. New radioactive drugs that both find and treat cancer cells are showing striking results for patients with advanced disease, and clinical trials of these treatments have more than doubled since 2015.

This growth is the backdrop for EANM'26 , the European Association of Nuclear Medicine 's Annual Congress, taking place at the Austria Center Vienna, from October 17–21, 2026. The event brings together around 10,000 clinicians, scientists, and industry leaders to discuss advances in nuclear medicine, molecular imaging, and radiopharmaceuticals — the radioactive drugs and techniques used to diagnose and, increasingly, directly treat disease.

"At a time when nuclear medicine is evolving at an unprecedented pace, the EANM annual congress is increasingly established as a key moment to pause, reflect, and collectively define the directions that will shape our field," says Valentina Garibotto, Chair of the EANM Scientific Events Council. "EANM'26 is being designed not only to present the latest advances, but also to foster critical dialogue on how innovation, evidence, and collaboration can be translated into meaningful impact for patients and healthcare systems worldwide."

On the programme : breakthrough research in theranostics (using radioactive substances to both find and treat cancer cells); next-generation imaging technology; AI tools helping doctors read scans faster and more accurately; advances beyond cancer, including heart disease, Alzheimer's and dementia, infectious and inflammatory disease, and paediatric care; and more.
