(Toronto, August 28, 2027) JMIR Publications is proud to announce the appointment of Dr Sebastian Spethmann as the new editor in chief of JMIR Cardio .

Dr Sebastian Spethmann, MD, MHBA, is deputy director of the Department of Cardiology, Angiology and Intensive Care Medicine, Campus Mitte at Deutsches Herzzentrum der Charité (DHZC), Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany. He also serves as co-speaker of the Amyloidosis Centre Berlin Charité (ACCB).

Dr Spethmann’s clinical work focuses on heart failure, cardiomyopathies, structural heart disease, and cardiovascular imaging. His academic work centers on the implementation of innovation in real-world cardiovascular medicine, particularly in the areas of access to care, digital cardiology (including telemedicine), health services research, and amyloidosis. His primary research interest lies in the effective integration of digital advancements into routine clinical care, alongside investigating how digital transitions can enhance cardiovascular health systems and patient outcomes.
