Researchers used a novel model ensemble to study compound hot-dry-events and found that precipitation trends determine their future occurrence. The frequency of these events is expected to increase fourfold in a two-degree warmer climate, with an uncertainty of up to 48% for precipitation trends.

Efficient pollen identification

A novel method for automated pollen analysis has been developed by combining imaging flow cytometry with deep learning, allowing for accurate species identification and quantitative findings in just 20 minutes. The new tool was tested on 35 plant species and achieved an accuracy rate of 96%, outperforming traditional microscopy methods.

Phthalates increase the risk of allergies among children

Researchers found that phthalate exposure during pregnancy and breastfeeding can lead to epigenetic modifications in children, increasing the risk of developing allergic asthma. The study also showed that the effects are not limited to the child, as the offspring of exposed mothers continued to be affected even after birth.
